Polar
Adventure Hub is developing a range of polar adventures.  The three great polar journeys are North Pole, South Pole and the Greenland Crossing.

Greenland Icecap Expedition April 2010

The first crossing of Greenland was made by Fridjof Nansen in 1888 using a pioneering style based on fitness, daring and lightweight equipment.  In April 2010 a modern day version of this crossing based on the same principles will be undertaken setting the way for future Adventure Hub clients. We will take you step by step through your preparations and training and using logistic contacts create a framework for your expedition.  Once in place we will guide you across not just the ice-cap but a full coast to coast crossing.

This expedition is not to be underestimated and is an excellent preparation for longer arctic/polar travel.

endure 09

The ENDURE expedition will attempt to cross Greenland on foot and totally unsupported.

Greenland is the second largest island on Earth. Straddling the Arctic Circle 80% of the country is permanently encased in ice creating the second largest ice cap in the world.

The ENDURE expedition aims to cover 600 km from east to west coast on foot and totally unsupported using a combination of forward thinking, revolutionary ideas and good old fashioned grit and determination. Even more challenging than this the ENDURE expedition aims to do the crossing of the ice cap in the style of an ultra distance marathon and complete the crossing as fast as possible.

Simply attempting to cross Greenland is a massive undertaking and is one of the big three classic polar journeys. It requires braving sub zero temperatures, crevasses, polar bears and some of the harshest conditions on the planet.

The ENDURE expedition team will have to sled haul all the necessary food, safety equipment and survival equipment to make the crossing in the same way the first polar explorers did when they made the first attempts at the North and South Poles.

The ENDURE team will be Ian Couch and Ben Thackwray (www.benthackwray.com).  Throughout the detailed planning of this expedition the two have worked closely to secure support from some leading organizations and brands.  The Trans Globe Trust, established to continue the work of Sir Ranulph Fiennes’s expedition has backed the ENDURE Team as has Berghaus, Inov-8, IceBug, Nite Watches, Bridgedale, the BBC and Forty Below.

As well as detailed research and planning the team has undertaken a considerable amount of training from clocking up many miles running, hauling tyres, ski practice and weights to practicing establishing and striking camp.  Training has been focused on not only fitness but technique and drills so tasks become second nature and reduce time wastage.
For further information please do not hesitate to get in touch.  You can also see some of our training photos in the gallery and follow us through the ENDURE site using our live tracking facility.
